How to store tyres between seasons

Check their condition, choose suitable storage and keep records for an easier next tyre change.

Inspect before storing

Record tread depth and visible concerns for each wheel. Have a workshop inspect damage or clearly uneven wear. Mark previous positions without damaging the tyre. Do not store a known problem as though it had been solved.

Choose the right environment

Michelin recommends clean, dry, cool storage protected from sunlight and harmful chemicals. Clean and dry first. Loose tyres are stored upright; complete wheels may be stacked or hung according to supplier instructions. Do not hang loose tyres.

Keep a wheel record

Note size, model, season and recommendations. Keep receipts and dated photos. The information is then available when requesting quotes, and you can tell whether a concern is new at the next change.

Compare storage services

Ask whether fitting, washing, inspection and storage are included. Agree on a quote before replacements. Check busy-season booking and collection if changing provider. Compare the same storage period.

Plan ahead

Set a reminder a few weeks before the next change and order necessary repairs or tyres. Storage does not restore worn tyres. When fitting, inflation, fastening and pressure-system procedures must follow the vehicle instructions.
