Before a long drive: plan vehicle checks, breaks and stops

A simple plan leaves enough energy, time for rest and an alternative if a planned stop falls through.

A week before

Review service history, tyres and known warnings. Book help early if anything needs examination. Explain the journey's length and conditions to the workshop so relevant checks can be assessed.

The day before

Pack with clear visibility and secure loads within the vehicle's limits. Check pressures for the actual load. Secure loose items and enter planned stops while stationary.

Combine stops and rest

Refuelling or charging can coincide with food and a proper break. Have a backup stop. Do not base the whole trip on an old price report or one charger's availability. Convenience and rest may outweigh the lowest price.

Budget with a margin

Calculate energy using your car's consumption and add tolls and parking. Use current prices and label uncertain amounts as estimates. A fully loaded holiday trip may use more energy than everyday driving.

Stay flexible

Check official traffic information before departure and during breaks. Let a passenger handle the phone or stop safely. Confirm important conditions with the operator or authority. Take an earlier break when needed; arrival time should never override fatigue.
