Servicing · Practical guide

When does your car need a service?

Find the interval for your model and track time, mileage and concerns that need attention now.

Find your vehicle's schedule

Use the manufacturer's plan for the correct model, model year and powertrain. Do not copy a general interval from another car. Check both time and mileage limits and any conditions relating to how the car is used.

Gather the history

Find the service book and receipts. Record what was actually done and when, not merely the last workshop visit. If documentation is missing, ask a workshop to help establish the next appropriate step.

Separate servicing from urgent faults

A warning, leak or new noise needs assessment according to the vehicle's instructions. Do not automatically wait until the next scheduled service. Describe the problem clearly when contacting a workshop.

Compare the same work

Request servicing to the manufacturer's schedule with itemised labour, parts, fluids and price. Agree that additional work needs your approval. A low package price may include different tasks from another quote.

Record what comes next

Afterwards, check the invoice, documentation, next date or mileage limit and outstanding concerns. Statutory vehicle inspections are a separate task and do not replace the service schedule.
