How to find cheaper petrol and diesel nearby

Compare the right fuel, check when a price was reported and work out whether a cheaper station is worth the detour.

Compare the same product

Follow your vehicle handbook and compare the same fuel grade. A members-only offer and an ordinary pump price may apply to different customers. If you have a discount agreement, use the price you will actually pay at each station.

Check the timestamp

A reported price is an observation at a particular time, not a promise about the pump price when you arrive. Check its age and confirm at the station. A missing price means more information is needed, not that the station is expensive.

Calculate the whole saving

Example: buying 40 litres at 0.80 kroner less per litre saves 32 kroner before other costs. If the detour uses 20 kroner of extra fuel, 12 kroner remains before time and wear. These are worked examples, not current pump prices.

Build a simple refuelling habit

Choose two or three stations on your usual journeys and compare them when passing anyway. Record litres, amount paid and odometer readings on receipts. Several fills reveal both cost and consumption. Do not postpone necessary refuelling hoping for a lower price.

Use recent observations

Check current local reports instead of assuming one weekday is always cheapest. Reported-price comparison is available in MileHalo's free version. Personal price alerts are a Premium feature; follow stations you can reach without a substantial detour.
